Guidance:

This question is in = two parts:

‘To what exten= t is health care in Scotl= and free’? Here, you may wish to discuss issues like:

The mixed economy of care, and particularl= y the role of the private sector
The role of the statutory sector, the type= s of care which are ‘free’ and those which aren’t
Free personal care for the elderly

The second part of t= he question asks whether health care in Scotland is fair. Here, you may wish to consider:

Who makes decisions about health care and = health policy in Scotl= and? Some of these people are elected, others are not.
Who has the power to influence health poli= cy? Do the public get a ‘fair say’?
Is health provision ever ‘fair’= ;? Does health care provision depend on where you live, how much you earn, how old you are, and how healthy – or sick – you are?=

You can express opin= ions in your essay, but make sure you give = both sides of the argument.

This is not part of the summative assessmen= t for this unit (i.e. it won’t count towards your final result), but it is a good opportunity for you to draw together the material we have covered so f= ar, which covers most of Outcome 1. It should also help a great deal when it co= mes to preparing for the final assessment! Your work will be marked and you will get feedback.
