The Psychoanalytical Approach

Read the hand out and in small Groups prepare agreed answers (if you can) to the following questions:

1. Explain what Freud meant by the following terms:

A) Psychoanalytic theory

B) Psychoanalysis.

2. Describe Freud’s model of the structure of the human mind.

3. Explain the role of the id, ego and the superego in human personality according to Freud.

4. Describe what you understand Freud’s concept of defence mechanism’s , do you think these could be useful for people.

5. Describe Freud’s model of the five stages of Psychosexual development, do you think it helps us to understand adult personality.

Each group should commit to paper their answers for copying and distribution to the rest of the class.
